Scarborough Athletic Seagulls was founded in 2016 by brothers Sean and Paul Tymon with the belief that football should be accessible to everyone. Steve Machen now leads the Scarborough Community Foundation, which includes Scarborough Athletic Youth Disability Football, Walking Football, the Women's Football Programme & FA Wildcat Girls, and the Young Lions Football Programme.
Originally called Scarborough Frame Football, the group has been supported by Gavin since 2021 while he worked at Hawkes Health, Fitness and Coaching.
Gav has now returned to continue the work in the community, with sessions currently running fortnightly and plans to create Scarborough’s first pan-disability football team.
Gavin says he’s proud to be back, inspired by the players’ determination, and committed to keeping community at the heart of the project.
Scarborough Athletic Seagulls

As part of North Yorkshire Sport funding received in March 2026, we’ll be delivering weekly multisport sessions for a local Scarborough charity founded in 2025 to support dads and male carers of children with SEND.
The group has grown to nearly 100 members and helps families through activities, meet-ups, and peer support. Over six months, the project will run in four-week sport blocks covering football, tennis, badminton, basketball, handball, rounders, scatterball, dodgeball, and rollerball, focusing on key skills, rules, and gameplay to improve fitness and wellbeing for both fathers and children.
The project received part of the £6675 from David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, via the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Dad's Behaving Madly
In March 2026, Coach Gav was awarded North Yorkshire Sport funding to deliver multisport sessions at Springhead 6th Form College in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
The college supports young people with SEND and complex needs. The project will run for six months using a four-week rolling format, changing the sport focus each block — including football, tennis, basketball, handball, badminton, dodgeball, roller ball, rounders and scatter ball.
Sessions will build fundamental movement skills, sport-specific skills and game understanding by practising in real game scenarios, while also supporting social skills, self-esteem and overall fitness for participants.
The project received part of the £6675 from David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, via the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
